The perky V-twin engine, rugged styling and day-long When BMW redesigned the R1200GS for the 2013 model year and KTM quickly followed suit with the 1190 Adventure, a new adventure-bike tire size was released upon the land. The goal was simple: Each manufacturer recognized that ADV machines were getting heavier and more powerful, which taxed the abilities of the relatively narrow tires previously
The 1050 with it's cast wheels, 100hp and non-adjustable suspension makes it a difficult sell especially when you can by a 1000cc Suzuki Vstrom for less money, more mature dealer network and better reliability. Although the 1050 has about the same power as the 9x0 they have non of the off road prowess of those old bikes.

They would much rather have you "upgrade" to the new model. I would dearly like to see the effect of downloading the 1090 map on the 1050 - but doubt if that is easily available. J0qF8.
